Dear Fellow Nebraska HIMSS members,

As we approach our second year of operation, I think it is worthwhile to look back and see what was accomplished in one short year and to see how we got where we are today.

The initial idea for a Nebraska Chapter was developed within an Issues Strategy Group that was formed by the Nebraska Hospital Association to look at IT issues facing Nebraska Hospitals.  One of the action items that came out of that group was to develop a networking system for professionals who deal with healthcare information on a daily basis. Thanks to the leadership and work of Kevin Conway from the NHA, the idea took root and grew and now we have our Nebraska HIMSS Chapter. Our membership has grown to over 170 and we anticipate it growing more as the year goes forward.

The success we have seen in the first year is a tribute to the many volunteers who stepped up to the plate to serve on the committees that are vital to making the chapter work. Thanks to their hard work, we had two very successful educational conferences as well as a very well attended Nebraska breakfast at the HIMSS Annual Conference in Orlando. All of the feedback we got from the educational conferences was very positive.

We welcome Dr. Michael Westcott as our president-elect for the upcoming year. The rest of the officers will continue in their positions for another year, offering continuity as we grow and prosper. In the very near future we will be issuing a call for volunteers to assist with several important committees within the Chapter. The officer team is looking forward to working with our committees to plan and execute a very successful year.

Thanks again to everyone who made our formation and first year so successful.

James Parks, MHSA
Chapter President
